Feedback:PetSafe Cat Containment system

I bought the electric fence to keep my two six-month old cats inside our garden. The cats were around 2 kilos in weight, but they took to the collars very well, which didn’t seem to annoy them in any way, even though, for me, they looked too big and heavy for their necks.  The cats are still growing, and nowadays I think they don’t look too large for their necks.  They love having the collars put on because they know what it means!

The inground fence is the yellow line in the corner  of the picture above and the cable doesn't even need to go in ground -can just be clipped up against the wall/wooden fence panels etc

The fence came with very comprehensive instructions, and you don’t need any special equipment to install it.  We bought some black mastic as we buried one section of the wire under our tarmac drive.  We did buy one extra reel of wire as our garden boundaries are quite large. I did all the training with the cats as specified in the manual, but I felt that the only time they really understood the fence was when they received a shock.  We put the flags around the property where the fence was located, and I would shout “Run away” every time they went near a flag.  But they would still investigate and go near the flags until they got a shock.

Now, the cats seem to keep clear of the flags, but I am a bit unsure if it is the flags that deter them, or the fact that they have come to learn the unsafe areas! I have seen one of them approach the boundary and then jump back when she heard the warning sound.  They really only need to hear this and it makes them flee, so they are never actually getting a shock (I suspect).

At first I kept the collar on level 2, but have recently increased it to level 3 since I noticed one of them walking down the drive towards the gate where we have the fence buried under the tarmac. Each morning I check the two green lights on the transformer to make sure it is working, although when my husband cut it with a strimmer, an alarm went off, so we knew it was damaged.

One of my cats was hit by a car before we had installed the fence, and I was beside myself.  He recovered, and now seems to have a fear of traffic.  However, the (Inground Petsafe) fence gives me great piece of mind, and enables the cats to have a fabulous quality of life.
