Scots go South (Part 2)
So if you have already had the 1st part of our down South travels here is everything else we learnt.
To the Poultry netting on a slope......
We were given a 25m poultry net with 'HOTGATE' and let loose with the same instructions as you get and a wayward Leslie...
Firstly can I please please say to you all PLEASE read the instructions before you start because if you get in a pickle it is a 25 or 50m net pickle and not fun.
We laid out the netting as instructed as I must say so far so good we were winning, this was until we had to place the posts in the ground and not just any ground on a slope I might add (believe me this is harder than on the flat) up the all went and then they were corrected and re corrected to get the tension right, checked that there was no netting caught around the bottom of the posts, once we were happy with this we then attached the 'Hotgate'
then the guy ropes and pegs we changed our minds as to which ones needed guy ropes a few times but got there in the end, then the galvanised pegs to hold the netting down, Once we were happy we checked everything again and started on the earth stake, energiser and battery we (well Ian) hammered the earth stake into the ground approx half way in and we attached the energiser our Gemini hangs nicely on the earth stake ,
Attaching the energiser to the battery and then onto the earth stake and fence is nice an easy, it is at this point you would also attach a solar assist panel should you be clever enough to realise the battery is heavy and carrying this up the hill every few weeks is no fun but the solar assist panel meant only 2 to 3 times a year, nifty hey?? we then used a fence tester the KV10 LED and we were only reading 3,000v so we knew we had a fault somewhere, but where??? touch the fence they cried, I think not is my reply I, so we checked again and the fence is ok, all the connections are ok so what might it be??? We check your earth stake as Ian only hammered in half in (as a test) we placed the KV10 LED tester onto the earth stake and it was reading 2,000 to 3,000v on the earth stake,
so a hammering we (Ian) goes until it is in bar 6 inches. And we have nothing on the earth stake and a net in place
So as you can see we were completed our manual labour for the day now to find the after sun lotion.............
Day 2
Faces to names day,
Having spent 4 months speaking to people but not actually meeting them it was lovely to put a face to the voice, we for me yes maybe not of the Hotline lot maybe they wanted to stay an unknown but the greeting we got said otherwise, such a great bunch of people so welcoming.
Day 2 continued on the training of new and old and the FAQ's answered for us, cheers guys.
Not much else to say but a great time was had, I returned with a suntan and a few red bits, much more knowledge to give to you customers and I now know it takes longer to fly South that it does for me to get home to Dublin.
