So Good earthing is at the root of any effective electric fence.
And in this dry mediterranean climate the earth stake certainly needs regular watering in (yes, with a good old watering can) to ensure good earthing so any passing fox gets a decent zap and knows it's just not worth coming back.
Even in the UK, the ground can get very hard and dry - if yours is like this then consider using one of our larger and heavy duty earth stakes here or here - they are designed for maximum contact with soil (so giving best earthing therefore zappiest fence).
These heavy duty earth stakes would also work a treat on a long fence (eg cattle/horse fence); additionally, on long fences it's a great idea to link 3 or 4 earth stakes together using leadout cable. (The first earth stake in the chain is connected to the energiser and the other earth stakes are just daisy chained onto the first earth stake using leadout cable).
Do make sure you insert the earth stakes as deeply into the ground as possible (you'd want at least 80cm of a 100cm long stake in the ground).
Have you got any interesting photos of electric fencing you've bought from us that you'd like to see on our website? They don't need to be from some exotic country - photos from your back garden will be fine.
